Was I sitting in the right seat? Did I look like a leader of pachyderms? Whatever the reason, I was chosen to be the King of the Elephants. It was my first time on stage in 24 years. I’m told my legs weren’t shaking visibly, though I have my doubts.

Truth be told, I have been trying to make that elephant-trumpet sound all my life, and my lips just won’t do it. So I did my best to improvise. I hope I faked it well enough.
